weigh in wednesday.

today i had my weekly weigh in and weight watchers meeting... i was down another pound! yay!! having two -1 lb losses in two weeks is great for me! i'm going to work hard this week, and hopefully have another good loss next week at the scale too. i've got a around 4 lbs to go to reach my next milestone... i think i can, i think i can! i'm hoping to get there before my birthday at the end of march. the scale is moving in the right direction... it might be slow, but i'm grateful it's moving the right way. i'm continuing my journey with the shape project in march, and i hope to vamp up my at home workouts too. i know with hard work, dedication and determination i can do this. until next time. XOXO

Happy Birthday Ryan!

Happy 6th Birthday to one of the best friends I could ever ask for! Ryan is a leap year baby, so her real birthday only comes around every 4 years. Ryan is one of the sweetest people I know, and I am grateful to have her as a friend. She'd do anything for anyone, and is always genuine. She was one of the very first friends I made in alpha phi, and I'm so glad we've remained friends through the years. She lives in Houston now, so we don't get to see each other often but when we chat it's always like old times. We pick right up where we left off! We've shared many memories together, were roommates my last semester of college, and she stood by me as a bridesmaid on my wedding day. She's one of the best friends I could ever ask for.

Love you, and miss you tons. Celebrate BIG! XOXO

March Goals.

It's hard to believe that the 3rd month the year is already almost here. It seems like time just keeps going by faster and faster... with March being just a couple days away, it's time to make some goals for the month. It's my birthday month, and I'm hoping to make 25 the healthiest year yet! I want to make my goal weight, stay there and continue to become more fit this 25th year of my life. That all being said, here are my March goals...

1. continue my journey with The Shape Project. (don't miss any boot camp sessions, and attend my first fitness retreat at the end of the month.)
2. get my homework workouts done on my off days... i'm thinking about joining the YMCA (still undecided... have to approve it through the hubs first too). i also am going to do this "mad abs march" plan i found on pintrest (summer is just around the corner!)...

3. keep my eating under control... continue with weight watchers. eat healthy all meals and only 1 cheat day a week (not cheat all weekend).

These are my goals for March. What goals are you setting for yourself? For me, it's important to have something to work towards... and at the end of the month to be able to look back and see what I've accomplished. We're almost to month 3 of the year... let's keep marching on! ;) until next time. XOXO

be real.

here's some food for thought if you're feeling like a failure on the journey of living a healthy lifestyle... we've all felt frustrated at times. most of us have thought about giving up, and some of us have given up a time or two. but we CAN do this. we are all only human.

oh monday...

it's here again... monday. the weekend's over, and it's back to work. how was your weekend? mine, it was okay. friday evening my sister and i ran around a little and went to dinner... then saturday i slept in, then worked an event that afternoon and evening. yesterday Honey and i were lazy most of the day... we stayed in bed until like 1:30PM because i didn't get home until almost 1AM from the event i worked. then i got up, folded some laundry, ran the vacuum and did a few things around the house. we went on a nice walk since it was a beautiful day and then i left her at home while i ran a couple errands. then we just chilled the rest of the afternoon until Clete got home. he went to muskogee for the weekend to hang out with some of his ol' buddies since i worked saturday. Honey was so excited to see him once he got home last night! and he loved that she had missed him.

that's really all that's going on here... i'm looking to try some new recipes this week, so be watching for some posts! think healthy & skinny... i need to be 10 lbs lighter by summer, and 15 would be nice! i've got exactly one month (march 26th) until my birthday and i'd like to be close to my summer goal then. my goal is to be 25 and fabulous this year! :) hope you have a grand week! until next time. XOXO

Mom's Visiting.

For a few weeks now my mom has been planning to come to Edmond to spend a few days with us! It's a bummer that I'm working the whole time, but it's always fun when she comes. She arrived yesterday afternoon and will be heading back home tomorrow. Honey will love her being at home with her all day today! When I went to boot camp this morning and Clete left for work, Honey went and got into bed with mom. Then once I got back home, she needed to come see me but then she went back with her Queenie. That little girl doesn't even know she's a dog! And sometimes she makes me want to scream because she's such a BRAT... but we love her and wouldn't trade her for anything.

When Mom visits, there are always goodies involved! And we love goodies, who doesn't?! My dad and her take an annual Valentine's trip to Eureka Springs every year with another couple. This year while there, she came across this canvas and bought it for us. I LOVE IT! I took down a picture in our living room to hang it. I always tell Clete, "I love you to the moon and back!" so when my mom saw it she said she had to buy it for us. She's the BEST! Her and dad are always thinking of their kids, and granddog (Honey is never left out, she brought her a new toy yesterday)...

She also brought Clete something for his "man cave." Last weekend they had an auction at their church for the children's department, so of course she participated! She won the bid on this banner, and it's now hanging on the wall in the man cave/office room. It goes great in there! I just need to get some curtains or something for that window to make that room complete.

Today she is being super awesome and cleaning the house while we're at work. She is also doing the little bit of laundry I had, and getting my ironing caught up. How lucky am I? My sister and I said growing up we'd never be clean freaks like her, but oh we are! Things need to be neatly in order and proper places, along with the house dust free and the carpets vacuumed. Sometimes I drive Clete crazy with my cleaning, but I just can't help it. It was part of my growing up. I don't mind the cleaning so much, but when it comes to ironing I did NOT inherit the liking for that. So I am very thankful I won't have to do any this week. This evening after work we're going out for dinner and I'm not sure what else the evening will bring. Tomorrow she will have lunch with Katie and I, then she's heading back to Muskogee. It will be a short trip, but we are blessed she isn't too far away. I'm so grateful for my parents! They are the BEST, and I don't know what I'd do without them. Clete and I are both very blessed with good sets of parents. They do so much for us, and we are extremely lucky and blessed.

until next time. XOXO

weigh in wednesday: a nice surprise!

Today when I went to my weekly weight watchers meeting, I just wanted to maintain. I didn't have a great week, so I would be happy with no gain. Much to my surprise, I was down 1#! I was pretty excited. I have no idea how I did it. The only thing I know is I do really well throughout the week days and the weekends are what get to me, so on Monday I got very strict again. Whatever I did, it worked! It was such a nice surprise. This week I'm going to really try and conquer the weekend, and not give into the temptations it brings. I'm looking for another loss next week at the scale. until next time. xoxo

Today begins the season of lent... the 40 day journey to Easter. Observing lent is still a newer concept for me. We began attending the Methodist church when I was a senior in high school, and the church we attended before didn't observe lent. The church Clete and I attend now to my knowledge doesn't observe it either, but I like the idea of lent. You hear of people giving up soda, sweets, fried foods, meat, etc. but lent isn't all about giving something up. The idea behind lent is to give something up to grow closer to God. Jesus spent 40 days in the garden praying, and the idea of lent is to give something up for 40 days to grow closer to God like Jesus did in the garden. I had a really hard time coming up with something to give up this year... when I try to give up food I fail and I also thought about giving up some social media, but I know I'd fail at that too. So I've decided to take a different approach to lent this year. Instead of giving something up, I'm going to spend some time in prayer and devotion each day. There are some areas of my life I'm not happy with at the moment, and I know that praying about them and studying will help me. I'm believing for God to show me the way I am suppose to go.

I also want to get better about taking care of my body. I'm currently eating okay, and getting in workouts 3 days a week. I need to be eating healthy, and only have minimal cheat meals and be getting workouts 5-6 times a week. I do realize that you only live once, but you also only get one body to live in and I want to take care of the body I was given. I also know it'd make me happier if I were happier with the way I looked in the mirror naked. Sorry if that's TMI... but let's just be real. We all do it.

So this is how I am going to try and observe lent this year. I want to get more involved with my spiritual life, and continue to improve my journey to get fit. Are you observing lent this year? If so, I'd love for you to share how... until next time. XOXO

sweet corn & black bean salsa.

Last night's dinner was one of my go to dinners, tacos. It's one of our favorite dishes, and it's super quick & easy. When I make tacos, I always have to make guacamole to go along with them. It's one of Clete's very favorite things and special request that goes along with anytime we have mexican at home. I decided to try something else new last night to go with our tacos. I created a sweet corn & black bean salsa, and it was yummy! It wasn't anything too special, I just experimented and it was a success in my book. So here was my recipe:

sweet corn & black bean salsa
+ 1 can sweet corn (rinsed & drained)
+ 1 can black beans (rinsed & drained)
+ 2 cans rotel (I used original, but it was a little spicy so I'd probably use 1 mild, 1 original next time)
+ 1/3 cup chopped cilantro
+ juice of 1 lime
+ 3 tbs splenda/sugar (50/50) mix

*pour beans and corn into strainer, rinse and drain. then combine all ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix together. serve with tortilla chips or on your favorite mexican dish. enjoy!

I haven't figured out the points+ on it yet, but it could easily be put into the weight watchers recipe builder. If I were estimating... I'd say it's around 2 points+ for a 1/2 cup. I do not know for sure though. It was very colorful and will add some color and eye appeal to any dish it was put on. It was a sweet & spicy flavor, and would make a great snack or appetizer. It does make a large bowl full. We liked it, and the flavor was great to add to our tacos.

until next time. XOXO

tropical smoothie.

The weekends ALWAYS get to me and my eating. I can do really well throughout the work week, and then the weekend comes...FAIL. Uh, I just don't understand why everything that tastes so good is so bad bad for you. So it never fails that Monday I'm working to get back on plan and do well... One day I will conquer the weekends. Hopefully sooner than later. Anyways, this morning I tried a new smoothie recipe. Smoothies are my go to breakfast. They're quick, easy to make and yummy! This past week Weight Watchers had gotten some new products in, so of course I needed to try them. One of them being a new "creamy coconut" smoothie mix. Not all people are a fan of coconut, but I am so I decided to purchase a box. When Clete and I went grocery shopping Saturday I had to get some frozen pineapple and frozen mango for the smoothie. I thought those would both go well in it. I made one this morning and it was pretty good. However, I'm not sure I'm a fan of it for breakfast. It was almost like a dessert, so it'd be a perfect late night treat after dinner! Here's the recipe I came up with, and it had a similar taste to a pina colada... all it needed was a little rum! ;)

tropical smoothie.
1 serving = 6 points+
+ 1 package Weight Watchers creamy coconut smoothie mix
+ 1 cup skim milk (could also use almond or coconut milk)
+ 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
+1/4 cup frozen mango
+ 1 small banana
+ 2 tsp canola oil (optional, I add oil to meet the suggested GHGs)

*put everything in blender (or magic bullet) and blend for about 3 minutes or until smooth. after smooth, then serve.

It was a little thick, so next time I may add some water or cut back on my frozen fruit. It had a nice flavor, and I think would be great when getting a "sweet toot" in the evenings. I really liked it, and I think if you're any kind of coconut fan, then you would too! What are some of your favorite smoothie or other breakfast recipes? I'd love for you to share... I'm always open to new ideas. Until next time. XOXO

weekend fun.

Oh, it's that time again... bringing the weekend to a close and gearing up for another work week. Blah! I think I need to find a job where I can work two days, and be off five. Ha! Maybe some day... it's just that weekends seem to fly by so fast.

How was you weekend? Ours was good! For a change, we actually did something this weekend. Friday evening we had Lindsay again. And she was so excited! She told Clete, "you took me out on two dates this week!" We picked her up about 6:45PM Friday night and she picked to go to Charleston's. The three of us had a nice dinner after waiting for a bit since we arrived in the middle of dinner rush. Clete and I had chicken, and Lindsay had a cheeseburger with fries. After dinner we went back to Lindsay's house and watched TV until her parents got home from their outing. We asked her if she wanted to do something else after dinner, but she just wanted to go home. She had a pretty busy week last week so she was wore out!

Saturday morning we woke up about 7AM thanks to Honey. She was up and ready for breakfast. After feeding her we then slept a little longer and then got up around 9AM. We got up and got the house picked up and cleaned. I dusted, cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms and mopped. Clete helped me out by vacuuming and sweeping. I started laundry and then we ventured out to run errands. We had an early lunch at Red Robin, then went to the grocer store and had a couple of other things to do. We got home early afternoon... after putting up the groceries I pulled everything out of the pantry to re-organize it. Our pantry SUCKS. There are only like 3 or 4 things I would change about my house, and that would be one thing. I'd prefer a walk in, or one like I had in my apartment that was a tall as the wall, and wide instead of deep. Ours isn't very tall, but it's super deep so it easily get dis-organized and things get lost in it.  Now everything is nicely in it's place!

After tackling the pantry, it was then time to shower and get ready for our evening plans. We decided to attend church on Saturday evening so we'd have nothing to do Sunday. We went to the 5PM service, then went to meet our friends Jeff and Jennifer at Dave and Busters. It recently came to OKC and was packed! It was insane and there was a 2 hour wait for a table to dinner, um NO thanks! So we decided to go somewhere else. We went and had dinner at Belle Isle Brewery which was pretty good, then stuck around there for a while just catching up. Later we ventured down to Norman for a while and we ended up getting home about 2AM.

This morning we slept until about 10AM then got up and went to brunch. We ate like pigs! I got my ice cream fix having a mini pecan ball for dessert... yummy!

After brunch we came home and had a lazy afternoon. We did take Honey for a walk since it was a beautiful day! And Clete got the garage blown out and organized a little better. I did laundry, and then we all took a decent nap this afternoon too. Honey spent a lot of time outside, and we watched golf for a while too... yuck! Golf has got to be one of the most boring things to watch on TV!

Honey watching golf with her Daddy.

I made a frozen pizza for us for dinner this evening, continued with laundry (yes, we had a ton) and bathed Honey. I also designed a wedding shower invite and got them ordered for a shower my mom and I are hosting with a friend, for another friend. One of the ladies that threw one of my showers has a daughter getting married this June and we're having a shower April 1 at my mom's house. That pretty much sums up our weekend. Not too exciting, but not as boring as some. It was good, and it's now time to get ready to go back to work tomorrow. Clete's a luck son of a gun and gets President's Day off tomorrow. That's all happening here for now. My mom will be here Wednesday for a couple days, and I'm looking forward to spending a little time with her.  Until next time. XOXO

weigh in wednesday: up again.

i had my weekly weigh in today, and i was up a little again. uh, it's frustrating but i just need to face that you always take that chance when you don't follow program like you're suppose to. i did really well like 3 days this week, then the weekend came around and i blew it with my eating. then it was snowy, and we all know when it's cold we like to eat "comfort food" and then it was valentine's so of course i had candy and dessert last night. it was only +0.4 so it wasn't much, but still... i MUST do better this week!
i was released from the chiropractor today (well, i have a check up in 2 weeks) and things are looking good. lately, i've had no hip pain so i'm going to attempt starting to jog again. i plan on starting C25K again on Friday (tomorrow is boot camp). i'll keep you posted on how that goes. i also need to be better about not giving into temptations when it comes to food. i WILL see a loss next week on that scale, dangit!  hope you're having a great week thus far, we're over half way done. here's some thought and motivation for today...

until next time. XOXO

our valentine's date.

this year for valentine's we did something a little different than we've done before. we took our friend Lindsay out for valentine's dinner so her parents could have an evening out with some of their friends. you should have seen the look on her face when she saw Clete walk in with a card and box of chocolates for her... you would have thought he brought her a million dollars. it was priceless! we let her pick where we were going to eat, and she chose chili's. chicken crispers are one of her favorites. we always know when taking her out it will probably be chili's, charleston's, or hideaway pizza. every once in a while she will want something different, but 95% of the time it's one of the other three choices. she also gave us a box of yummy chocolates that we broke into once we home last night. we enjoyed our evening with Lindsay, and i know having valentine's dinner with Clete made her day! she doesn't know it yet, but we will also be with her friday evening because her parents have an event to go, so i know seeing us twice will make her week!

*Lindsay & Clete at dinner
Valentine's 2012

Lindsay is more of a blessing than she will ever know to us. she teaches things every time we're with her, without even trying. we cherish the time we spend with her, and it makes us happy knowing that us doing something so simple with her can make her day. we hope she had the best valentine's she's had in quite some time, and i'm pretty sure she did.

other than taking Lindsay out, valentine's was pretty normal for us. i got Clete a whole bunch of candy, a coffee mug that says mr. and some coupons to redeem to me for things. it was nothing raunchy... they were simple things. one was for a day with the guys, one for a tv date night where he picks the shows (most of his shows i do not enjoy), one was for a foot massage, one for a back & neck massage.... i found them at hobby lobby and thought they were perfect for the occasion. on the back of each one, there's a bible verse about love or marriage. i also made him a really neat card, that he liked. i got a sweet card from him and a gift card to the gap. of course, he waited until last minute to do any shopping but i was happy with what i got. after all, a gift card means i get to shop! there's a pink blazer i've been wanting from there but it was over our vday budget and they were out of my size, so he went with a gift card instead. i'm in need of spring & summer clothes, so i need to save some money up and then hit the mall!

it was a good valentine's. we don't go all out, so dinner and a simple gift is the norm for us. i am grateful everyday that i get to share life with my best friend and valentine. i am truly blessed. hope you and your lover had a nice valentine's too! until next time. XOXO

my valentine.

I mentioned in a past post that Clete and I never really do up Valentine's like a lot of couple's do. We usually keep it small, and simple. Tonight, we're taking our dear friend Lindsay out for Valentine's. She is going to be so excited when we pick her up this evening! I know it's going to make her day, and probably her week! That will be another post coming later. With it being Valentine's Day, I wanted to write a post simply about my husband. I'll try not to be too mushy...

Some of you know our love story and others don't, so I'll make it short & sweet. Clete and I were introduced in the fall of 2004. I was coming out of a relationship, and he had always been a "ladies man" in high school. It was in mid October when we met at Taco Bell after a Friday night football game. After chatting a few weeks, we then started dating. I don't think either of us ever thought going into our relationship that we'd end up married one day. We went through a long distance relationship the fall of 2005 when I was attending college at OU, and Clete decided to stay home and attend NSU. For the spring semester of 2006 he moved to Edmond and started attending UCO, making it much easier for us to see each other. In the fall of 2007 we had a break up (it wasn't very pretty), but after being apart for about 4 months we decided that we needed each other. We were back together Valentine's 2008 and the rest is pretty much history... we became Mr & Mrs on June 11, 2011.

I feel so extremely blessed to be sharing every day life with my best friend. Yes, we have our moments but that's because we're both human. He's the class clown, while I take things a little more serious sometimes. We balance each other out. I seriously do not know what I'd do without him. I am so thankful for all the things he does for me, and for us. He's a hard worker, a go-getter, a lover and most importantly a best friend. I can tell him anything and he will never judge me for my thoughts or feelings. He's silly, funny and sometimes too much to handle, but even when he drives me CRAZY I still love him! I must admit, I don't know the exact moment I knew when I'd marry him (except for when he got down on one knee) but there's little things that he does everyday that make me fall more in love with him.

He's a good daddy to Honey, and just watching him with her makes me excited for the day when he becomes daddy to real (human) babies. He's also great with our little cousins and crazy about them, so I know without a doubt he will be a great father to our children one day. Yes, there are plenty of things he does that make me want to scream but I know I have my faults that he puts up with too. It's all about meeting in the middle, giving & taking, and sometimes agreeing to disagree.

He is the icing to my cupcake, the peanut butter to my jelly, and the sunrise to my morning. He makes me smile, laugh and still often gives me butterflies. Everyday we share together is a blessing. I am so glad he's mine, my valentine! :)

mr. g- I am so lucky to share every day life with you. You're my best friend, and companion for life. I seriously don't know what I'd do without by my side. I enjoy all of our ups, and even our downs because they make us stronger. Thank you for all you do. I treasure all the memories we've made together, and I look forward to making many more together. I love you to the moon & back! XOXO

No Snow Day.

We did get some snow but not enough for a snow day. BUMMER! I was really hoping for just ONE snow day this winter, but it looks like I'm not going to get that wish. By Wednesday, it's suppose to be back in the high 50s. Most schools around the metro area were open today, with some starting a late. I was really hoping for a day snuggled under the covers with the pup and husband, but instead we're resuming this Monday as normal. Clete and I are both working, while Honey's at home doing what she does during the day. There is still snow on the ground, but the streets are clear for the most part. No snow day here. Looks like we'll have to wait until next winter and hope for one. Happy freakin' Monday! until next time. XOXO

Sunday Funday.

It's been another low key weekend for us. Friday evening we played the boring old married couple by grabbing a quick dinner at BWW and going to the grocery store. We then came home, put groceries away and went to bed fairly early (for a Friday night). Saturday morning I got up, got around and met some girlfriends for a girls day. We met at Starbucks, then spent the day at Affair of the Heart. I got home around 5PM... then got the house cleaned up and started laundry. I cooked a Valentine's dinner for my hubby and we drank champagne. That was the excitement of our Saturday evening. Ha! This morning (Sunday) we slept in, got up and around then went to church at 11:30AM. After church, we grabbed a quick lunch at the mall food court and then went to see The Vow. I've been wanting to see it since I very first saw the previews, so Clete agreed to going this weekend as part of my Valentine's. It was a good movie! We both really liked it, yes even Clete! I recommend the movie to anyone, but especially couples. It's make you think a little bit, and makes you appreciative for what you have in your relationship (just go watch it, and you'll see what I mean). After the movie, we went in a couple stores at the mall and then headed home. We were lazy for the rest of the afternoon for the most part. I've been finishing up laundry and getting ready for another week. We had taco soup for dinner, and are now snuggled up watching the Grammys. We're awaiting the snow that's coming... I just hope if it does snow and actually sticks, then it's enough to give us a snow day tomorrow. It's been a nice weekend, even though it's been very low key. I love our lazy Sunday evenings... just me, Clete & Honey. I feel very blessed to have the life we have. Cheers to a great week! until next time. XOXO

smothered hamburger steak.

The past couple of weeks I've been slacking a little bit in the cooking department. I've failed to plan, which is key for me when it comes to being in the kitchen. It's best for me to sit down and plan out what we will eat for the following week on Saturday or Sunday, and then know ahead time what I'll be cooking. If I don't plan, I get lazy and will just veto cooking and we'll go out. Eating out isn't always bad, but eating at home is better for the check book and usually more healthy. We will never not eat out. It will always be a part of our life, but this year we are just trying to do it less than before. After having a gain at the scale this week, I knew I must get back to cooking at home. Here's the latest recipe I made, and it was another hit here at our house. Enjoy!

Hamburger Steaks
servings= 4 servings (1/4 lb)
points+ = 4 per serving
*must use lean (90/10) ground beef for 4 points+
+ 1 lb lean ground beef (90/10)
+ 3 tbs Montreal steak seasoning  (any steak seasoning would work, this is just the one we prefer)
+ 2 tsp garlic salt
Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix together. Divide ground beef up into 4 servings and make patties. Place patties in a baking dish, preheat oven to 375 and then bake for 40-45 minutes.
Add cheese of  your choice the last few minutes of cooking.
(I use a 2% pepperjack cheese for 1 points+)
*can also grill meat

Sauteed Mushrooms & Onions
serving= 1/2 cup
0 points+ per serving
*must use spray butter for 0 points+
+ 1 package mushrooms (sliced or whole. If use whole, slice before cooking)
+ 1/4 white onion
+ 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce (I really just make sure to get it on all the mushrooms)
+ 5-8 quirts spray butter
Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan or skillet. Bring sauce to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 15-30 minutes until mushrooms & onions are soft. *If I have time, I simmer mine longer. I think they're better the longer they simmer.

Once hamburger steaks are ready, top with mushrooms & onions. If adding cheese, add before topping with mushrooms & onions. Serve with another veggie or starch.

A local restaurant in Muskogee used to serve something similar and that's where this idea came from. My Mom used to make something like this at home a lot and we all loved it! I'm not sure what spices she used in the meat, but it was the same basics. You can also do the cheese, mushrooms & onions with marinated chicken breast instead of beef and it's great too!

my plate = 6 points+:
+ hb steak with 2% cheese, sauteed mushrooms & onions (5 points+)
+ 1/2 cup sweet green peas (1 points+)

bon appetit! until next time. XOXO

8 months.

Today marks 8 months of life, laughter and happily ever after for Clete and I. It's crazy to think we are so quickly approaching our 1 year mark. It's been a fun and exciting adventure of being Mr. & Mrs. Griffith! We've had many ups, a few downs and have made so many memories already in this chapter of our lives. I feel very blessed to have this life, and to be sharing it with my best friend. I love you to the moon & back mr. g! It's been a great 8 months, and I look forward to many more together. XOXO

"a best friend for life,
husband & wife!"

I was told a few days ago by a co-worker that she can't wait for me to have kids. Her words were, "As many pictures that you post on instagram of your cute little dog, I know it'll be so many more once you have babies." Well, I'd be lying if I said I don't get the baby itch every once in a while but no human children are in our near future plans. We know we want to have kids in the future, but we want to be able to enjoy our first couple of years as newlyweds it just being us two (and the pup). Honey is our baby! To be honest, she doesn't even know she's a dog! Haha. So here's some iPhone pics I've snapped of her this year. We love our furry, spoiled rotten, girl!

weigh in wednesday: UP.

the past two weeks I have struggled with my eating. i could start the day off well, and then the afternoon munchies would get me, or i'd go to lunch with coworkers and give in to temptations, or i'd be lazy and not cook at home so we'd go out to eat... i could go on and on. anyways, my plan to eat healthy has failed the past two weeks. i'm not sure what my problem is, but i have been out of control. i'll just confess... over the weekend i ate close to two boxes of girl scout cookies by myself. DOUBLE FAIL. so it was no surprise to me that i was up +2.4 pounds on the scale this week. but, in my defense i didn't weight last week either so that gain was over a two week period.

today in our weight watchers meeting, the topic was tracking. some people dislike the weight watchers program because of the tracking technique they use, but i know it is what makes the program work for me. it's simple. usually if i don't track my food intake then i don't lose. so this week my goal is to keep track of everything i eat. next week i want to see a loss on the scale, and tracking EVERYDAY will help me achieve that!  i will also plan better this week than the past two. today starts a new ww week for me, so i'm putting the past two behind me and only looking ahead. we can't change the past, but we can make it to where the future goes in a different direction. i want to see the scale move back in the downward direction! i found this quote on another blog i follow, and wanted to share... this is very true and something to think about!

a want to blurb a little about working out. i am now a believer that working out is what truly changes your body! i say this because i know if i wouldn't have had 6 boot camp sessions in the past two weeks, i probably would have gained 5 or 6 pounds. i was expecting like a 5lb gain today and was pretty surprised and relieved when it was 2.4 instead. i know without a doubt it's because i haven't slacked on my workouts... so get out and get active in some way! it will help you more than you know. until next time. XOXO

Happy Birthday Thomas!

Happy 20th Birthday to my brother-in-law, Thomas! It's hard to believe the first birthday I was around of his was when he turned 13... WOW!  The years have flown by. I remember him and his friends running around as preteens, and now he has grown into a young adult and man. I've been able to watch him mature and blossom. He's the little brother I always wanted. He's been pretty special since the very beginning...he even attended Clete and I's very first date with us. It was for sure an evening to remember... haha, but that's for another post. Happy Birthday T!

Clete and I are very proud of you! Enjoy your special day, and eat some cake! :) We hope you have a great day and the best year of life yet. Happy Happy Birthday! XOXO

be my valentine.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and I am still trying to figure out what in the world to do for my husband this year. In years past, we haven't really done too much for occasion but I feel like this one is a little different since it's our first one as Mr. & Mrs. I want to make it special, but nothing cheesy or too costly. Valentine's Day is kind of silly (a lot of people, especially men, say it's just another holiday to make people buy stuff), but it's also kind of fun. This is the one time of year I usually try to get creative and make Clete something myself. What's something that's nice, a little romantic, I could put my own touch on and doesn't cost an arm and leg?! I've got a couple ideas in my head, but don't want to share just in case he decides to read my blog. However, I did already get his card and I can not wait to give it to him! I'm kind of a freak when it comes to cards, and I really have no idea why. I ordered his card from tinyprints.com and I hope that it's meaningful to him. I think it will be, or he at least better act like it is. :)

The Valentine's Day that sticks out the most to me in my head was my and Clete's very first one. It was February 2005 and we had only been dating a few months. Clete picked me up with flowers, and made me put on blind fold. He drove around for a while until we arrived at our "destination". He walked me inside, and once we were in he took the blind fold off. We were at his house (his parent's)... he had the table set nicely with candles, had music playing and cooked me dinner. His little brother, Thomas, served us dinner like we were at a fancy restaurant. Let me remind you, we were 18 and Thomas was around 14 or so... Anyways, after dinner he took me back to his room where he had my present. He had sprinkled rose petals, and hershey's hug & kisses all down the hallway to his room. My gift was a build a bear teddy bear that he had made just for me! She was dressed in a pink princess outfit, and when you squeezed it, Clete said, "when you miss me the most, give me a hug." I had just before found out I was accepted to OU for that following fall, and we knew I'd be moving off to Norman after summer. I held on to that bear and we still have it... she just no longer talks and has few holes in her. If we ever have a little girl, she will probably inherit the princess teddy. It was a very thoughtful & memorable evening that Clete planned all by himself. I tease him now and asked him what happened to all his creativity & charm he used to have? LOL

Last year he worked the evening of Valentine's, but he had a cute little gift for me when I got home that he put some thought into... since this is our first married Valentine's I wonder what he'll come up with? I think I'm just going to leave it up to him to do the planning. I can't always plan everything! I'm stuck a little on what to get him this year... any ideas or suggestions you might have I'll take. I do have some things floating in my head, but it'll be February 14 before we know it, one week to be exact! So what are you doing for your Valentine?

until next time. XOXO

eat healthy.

WHY does eating healthy seem so hard sometimes? I know it's a lifestyle, but sometimes it's just too easy to let old bad habits sneak back in. For me, once they're back in it's hard to kick them again. I have struggled the past couple of weeks with my eating. STRUGGLED BAD. I have felt out. of. control. and at times have just wanted to sit down and eat a box of cookies to make me feel better. I may have even eaten a whole sleeve and a half of girl scout cookies by myself over the weekend, which resulted in making me feel worse. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of healthy things that taste good... BUT why does almost everything that's bad for you taste so much better? cookies. ice cream. pizza. burgers. nachos. It's all BAD, but tastes so good.

I know there are going to be some days that you cheat a little bit and have something that isn't the best food choice but it needs to be seldom! And it is NOT good to do that when trying to lose weight. If I were trying to maintain, I probably wouldn't feel so out of control lately. What do you do to help you gain control of your eating if it gets crazy? Don't suggest stepping on the scales... I've done that and it hasn't phased me. I almost feel like my body needs a detox or cleanse...

* a must remember

a lazy Saturday and super bowl Sunday.

How was your weekend? Ours was very chill, but it was good. Friday evening we had friends over for dinner, then late that evening we ventured down to Norman to Riverwind casino. We were out late that night, but came home with a tiny bit extra cash  in our pockets so we were happy. Saturday morning, we slept in until almost 11AM. We NEVER sleep that late anymore, however we also never stay out until 3AM anymore either. We got up, freshened up a little bit and ran a couple errands then went to brunch. After eating, we ran around a bit and then got back home about 2:30PM or so. We laid down for an afternoon nap, and it was 6:15PM when I woke up... oops! I was one tired lady after being out half the night. We went to dinner and then came back home. I showered, started laundry and got the house cleaned up some. I think I hit the hay around 11PM or so.
Sunday we got up and attended church, then headed to Tulsa to meet my parents and sister for lunch. We were also excited about picking up Honey, because after 3 nights without her we were missing our baby. We had lunch and attended the boat show, then headed back home. We watched the super bowl once we were home, ate nachos for dinner and I did laundry. It was a real exciting super bowl Sunday. After the game was over, we pretty much went to bed. I watched The Voice before falling asleep a little after 10PM.
This morning, 4:45AM came early! It always does, but Mondays are usually a little more difficult to get out of our nice, comfy bed. That pretty much sums up what went on here over the weekend. It was very chill, but every once in a while a day of laziness is good. Hope you had a nice weekend and are ready for another week! until next time. XOXO

name change, check!

Name change? Yes, Clete and I were married almost 9 months ago and I still hadn't gone to the social security office to officially change my last name. Well, that changed today... I now officially have the name Mrs. Griffith. I was told I should have my new social security card in 7-10 days. I've been putting it off because I've heard so many horror stories about going to the social security office, and the fact that they're only open from 9AM-3:30PM makes it a little inconvenient for most working adults. I've heard about how it's a mad house, you wait forever, it's dirty... basically I heard that it was HELL. So I put it off... after all, what is the big deal? I had my name changed on everything else, and Clete & I ARE married. We have the certificate to prove it! You see though, I had changed my name on everything, including with HR at work so my W2 came back with the last name of Griffith on it. That can be a issue with the IRS if names and social security numbers don't match... I only know this because I help handle a little bit of that stuff at the office and when people's don't match up the IRS sends a letter. So I had to get it done for us to file our 2011 taxes. However, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I arrived at the office about 30 minutes before opening and it was already full. I thought to myself, OMG this is going to be a failed attempt. I checked in with the security guard and asked him how long of a wait he thought it'd be and he said for a name change it'd go quick. He was right... once they opened at 9AM they started calling numbers and I was the 9th number for name changes. I was called about 9:10AM and I was walking out a little before 9:20AM. It wasn't near the nightmare I had imagined it would be. I did feel a icky after leaving, but I am glad to have that done and out of the way. TGIF. Hope you have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend! until next time. XOXO

groundhog day.

Yes, it comes around every year on February 2nd... groundhog day. Did the groundhog see his shadow? I'm not sure, but regardless if he did or didn't it feels like springtime already here in Oklahoma. The high today is 66! I'm wearing a light sweater with flats, usually we're wearing big bulky sweaters, a coat and ugg boots. Where is the snow? This day last year, we were in the middle of snowacalypse 2011. It's crazy how Oklahoma weather changes, but after living here my whole life I know it can be 90 degrees one day and 25 the next. I'm not going to try and fool anyone, I am a little disappointed we haven't had a blizzard this year. I HATE driving in the snow and ice, but it is usually nice getting to spend a couple days at home snowed in, staying in your pjs all day, watching movies, eating soup and drinking cocoa. However, I am grateful for the beautiful weather we've been having lately. I just wish I could get out and enjoy it a little more.

Honey is going to Muskogee with her Aunt KK today. Katie's going home for the weekend, and my Mom asked for Honey to please come too. I can only imagine what it'll be like once we have human children... I think my parents will just have to move here, or at least get an apartment for them to split their time. So Clete and I are "child" free this weekend. No big plans for us... we're having Matt & Lindsey over for dinner tomorrow evening and then who knows what else the weekend will hold. I'm sure it won't be anything extravagant.

This evening I'm finally getting to see one of my girlfriends, Paige! Life has been so busy for us both that we haven't gotten together in what feels like months, so I'm looking forward to dinner and a little girl time with her after work today.

Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday. This has been another one of those week's that has felt like forever. That's all going on here. Nothing too exciting... until next time. XOXO

weigh in wednesday: February Goals.

The first month of 2012 is behind us, and month two is here. This year already seems to be moving quickly! After a weekend of being out of town, I know that I will more than likely be up today at the scale. I make myself so upset when it comes to the weekends. I always seem to give in to temptations on the weekends and I have no idea why. Then when you're away from home, it makes it that much harder. Weekend eating is an area I really need to work on. Anyways, I plan on using a no weigh pass at WW today. Today begins a new week and a new month, so I'm only looking forward! I will NOT give up... I will get into those jeans!

Since February is here, it's time to set goals for this month. What are your goals for month two of 2012? My goals for February are:
+ have a perfect attendance for boot camp this month
+ track everything and continue to move the scale down
+ get in exercise on my "off" days (days I don't have boot camp)
+ get my weekend eating under better control

Take a few moments today and set your goals for yourself. It will give you something to work towards this next month. Hope your week is going well, and your February is off to a great start! until next time. XOXO
